| Customer Reviews: Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike Review August 17, 2010 Hawk 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Two days ago I purchased an Ironman 1711. It was a floor model so no assembly was necessary. I'm glad it was assembled because the instructions for assembly look daunting. Still, another reviewer said he and his wife assembled their 1711 in about 90 minutes.
Since I will be using my machine for calorie burning and cardio exercise only, I have no use for all the bells and whistles which come on higher priced, (and bulkier), exercise bikes. This one comes with a battery-operated display which shows Time; Speed;, Distance; Calories; Pulse; and Pulse Recovery. The instructions include suggestions for pulse rate during exercise, but since I take blood pressure medication which lowers my heart rate I intend to use my own good judgment to determine my rate of exertion.
The machine is solid, but the maximum user's weight is listed at 250 pounds. I weigh 230 and feel secure. (Actually I feel fat, but that will change. The machine handles my size nicely.)
I'm starting with 10 minute workouts for the first week, so I haven't clocked much time on the bike yet, but so far I am really pleased. I think this machine will do the trick for me. The only negative is that my butt gets sore even after 10 minutes, but I attribute that to my newness to the saddle, not to the saddle itself - which seems well made.
If you are militant about workouts and a zelot about exercise equipment, then you may want to pass this one up. But if you want a simple, sturdy, home exercise machine to help you burn calories and to get into better cardio shape, then this machine is worth your consideration.
Great Workout At A Decent Price June 30, 2010 DaffyD (Seattle, WA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
.Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike For our budget, this bike was the only decent choice on the market. It only took about 90 minutes for my wife and I to assemble it, despite the instructions not being very clear at some points.
Positives: Smooth, pedaling action. LCD Display Panel menu shows time, speed, distance, calories burned, and pulse rate. There's also a pulse recovery display, too. The seat is comfortable. 8 levels of manual resistance. You can personalize the different displays with the up and down buttons. Offers a good workout and seems well-made. Good warranty--
2 years frame
1 year mechanical
6 months electronics
90 days labor
Negatives: LCD Display screen hard to see in low light--it should have been backlit. The 8 levels of manual resistance do actually seem to be 8 separate levels. There's not much difference between 3-6. At level 8, there's not nearly the resistance I would expect at the highest level. The seat is fairly cumbersome to move for persons of different heights since you have to unscrew a bolt from a hole in the base of the bike frame, and slide the frame and seat either forward or backward to the other hole. It would have been a better design to just be able to move the seat. Comes with 2 AA batteries instead of an AC Adaptor. No iPod plugin port or speakers. There is no fan. There are no pre-set computer workout programs, like those that come with the Schwinn Active 20 for about the same price; this bike is entirely manual. I don't know why Ironman couldn't also have found a way to include workout programs at this same price point.
The bike is very quiet and it's perfect for exercising and watching TV or listening to music. It's a no-frills machine but it feels solidly built so that it will last for years. There was one other brand for a slightly lower price I just read about, but the reviews are mixed.
I like this bike alot and have been using it several times a week. In the absence of the workout programs, I keep mine simple--same resistance, trying to increase my pedaling speed to increase my heart rate, and slowly increasing my workout time.
I am recommending the Ironman 1711 Recumbent Bike. It's not fancy but it does the job. It might not have all the computerized features of other recumbent bikes, but then there is less to go wrong. The bottom line is I'm enjoying my workouts and I feel I'm getting my money's worth.
