About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

5 out of 5 stars Marcy Recumbent Magnetic Bike   October 8, 2009
Kelea P. Burns
Looked like the best bike on the market. Easy to assemble and use. Display is good and self explanatory.

5 out of 5 stars Meets all advertised specs and more   September 20, 2009
IceClimber (Alaska)
I bought this bike because
--it did not weigh a lot so I could move it by myself
--it said it would support up to 300 pounds (more than 225 ...)
--it was very reasonably priced but reviewed favorably
--it was quiet / magnetic resistance
--it was supposed to be easy to put together
--it did not take a bunch of space
--it looked like it had decent back support and a comfortable seat

All of these things are TRUE. I have had this bike for about a month and use it nearly every day.

I was pleasantly surprised that I could move it all upstairs myself, piece by piece. I am not particularly strong (female recovering from a long illness and a nasty lower back injury) and was also able to put it together myself.

Thanks to other reviewers for their suggestions on handling the cable.
I did have to pull out a ratchet to properly secure the larger bolts. The trick to the cable for me was to turn the tension wheel to release more of the cable. An unadvertised bonus are the small wheels in the front bottom support bar making moving it even easier. For my purposes of physical therapy and working certain muscle groups, I left off both the pedal straps and the wrap around handle bar. I feel very stable and comfortable on it. Nothing has come loose or apart or broken. I did notice the "time" function did not work at slow speeds, somewhere around 3.3-3.5 seems to be the minimal speed.

If you need this type of bike, extra support both in weight and in the back, this is the bike to have. It is worth way more than its price.

I purchased this bike a few weeks ago. The price was good, and for someone who isn't sure if they are going to stick with it, it seemed appropriate. It arrived on time, packaged well. There is no assembly service offered, so you are going to have to put it together yourself. This was my first time assembling such a thing, and it wasn't too bad. The worst part to figure out is hooking up the tension control. Other than that, pretty easy.

Unfortunately a couple of things were wrong. The computer that tells you how far/fast you're going wasn't in the box. I called the company IMPEX, and the part was ordered without difficulty. Over 2 weeks later, still no computer. I called the company and they are "back ordered" and will take a few weeks before they will arrive. That's frustrating. The bike is still usable, but not able to track your progess.

Another problem was with a piece of the main frame. It was bent in such a way that even as tight as I can get it, it will always rock when ridden. I'm well under the weight limit, but it makes you feel like a heffer to have your exercise bike "ker-thunk" every time you make a revolution on the pedals. I don't know if it is worth taking the bike apart and sending the main piece back. I will try a little longer with that.

Now this part is minor, there was some paint flaking off of the side. I don't really care about that, but just so people know, could be a possiblity.

The seat is comfortable for the first 15 minutes. After that, you can really feel your coccyx pressing on the frame. I use an additional pillow. The seat is hard to slide for height adjustment. Some WD40 improved it, but after my husband uses it, I grumble about getting down there and pulling it forward.

3 out of 5 stars You really need two people to put this together   August 19, 2009

I am still trying to put this bike together, seems to need some man power and some extra tools other than what is in the box. It has taken me two days so far, but I am giving it my best shot.

4 out of 5 stars For Senior Citizen   August 18, 2009

Pros:
* Bike arrives in 12 subassemblies - so easy assembly
* Smooth operation
* The center bar is 5 inches off the ground - a relatively easy step for a senior
* Having both the upper and lower handlebars provides stability for a senior to sit down on the seat / and get up without falling over
* The height and position of the display, the seat, and handle bars allows one to view the TV while peddling which helps one avoid thinking about the time / exercise

Cons:
* Please read earlier review / comment from another reviewer was "spot on" about the crappy shipping box. The box the item was shipped in was sad but inner product(s) was not affected
* The display is so small it is a large disappointment!
* The bike was manufactured in China from reclaimed steel / iron - so it weighs a ridiculous 75 lbs. (Reclaimed metal is cheap). If you are young and going to be mobile - opt for an aluminum frame bike
